Health and Care research Wales public involvement consultation

Every week, hundreds of people help make health and social care research happen in Wales. This research is not possible without the help of the public, by taking part in individual research studies or by sharing their time and personal experiences to help inform the priorities, design, delivery and implementation of research.

Health and Care Research Wales wants to make sure that future research is developed as a joint venture between the public, researchers and people working in health and care. We are seeking input on our ambitions for public engagement and public involvement in health and social care research, set out in our draft ambitions document – Discover your role in health and care research

The ambitions document has been developed with involvement from the Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Delivery Board and other public members and researchers. It outlines the key aspects of public involvement and engagement that can shape our work for the forthcoming strategy period (2020-2025). We are keen to receive feedback on the ambitions document and have created a short survey for people to share their views (the survey can be accessed via the Health and Social Care Wales website here). The feedback survey will be open until 27 November 2019.

In addition to an online questionnaire, Health and Care Research Wales is running a series of open invitation events in October, November and December 2019. We are looking for Public Involvement leads, researchers, service providers, members of the public, third sector organisations and anyone else interested in public involvement and engagement in health and social care research to join our ‘’Community of Practice’ workshops, and help plan how we can turn the ambitions outlined in the ‘Discover your Role’ document into a reality.

The events will be a great chance to work collaboratively to shape the development of Health and Care Research Wales’ public involvement and engagement plans. The events will also offer attendees the chance to share good practice and discuss the challenges and opportunities for public involvement activities in health and social care research.

The first community of practice event is being held on Monday 14 October 2019, in Cardiff (exact venue tbc). Registration to attend this event is now open: https://www.healthandcareresearch.gov.wales/discover-your-role-events/

Details on the 2nd and 3rd event will be available shortly via the Health and Care Research Wales website. If you would like to contact Health and Care Research Wales about this consultation, please email DiscoverYourRole@gov.wales.
