News and Events

17/10/2017

Purpose of this symposium is to present the QUOD program up to date activities, research projects and future plans; as well as the potential that this bio-resource offers for any type of research. In addition, this event will give a great opportunity to set up collaboration as many lead researchers and research groups will be present.

The Quality in Organ Donation (QUOD) initiative is a nationwide program funded by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), which has been established to streamline research focusing on improving organ quality in donation and transplantation.

This national bio-resource for biological samples (blood, urine, bile and tissues) is collected from organ donors at several key time points during the donation process. The combined knowledge of donor demographic and outcome data from the subsequent transplant of the organ(s) (from NHSBT data) will provide researchers with a valuable insight into how organs are affected long term by unnatural disturbance of a number of complex pathways after brain death and intracranial events leading to donation following circulatory arrest.
