The research priorities that are being addressed by WKRU have been and will be decided on by patients and service providers working together with researchers, leading to funding applications that address the important problems facing renal patients. This is underpinned by an excellent track record of science delivery. This is a continuation of the approach successfully adopted by the NISCHR (now Health & Care Research Wales)-funded All Wales Kidney Research Network, and has proved effective not only in winning funding for research, but in delivery of meaningful outcomes and impact (health and social care improvements, world-leading scientific advancement) from that funding. The governance structure of WKRU ensures that research questions addressed are aligned with commissioned service evaluation projects, in collaboration with WG, Wales Renal Clinical Network and UK national renal bodies.
